The Z Tailgate
By Clive Riddle
Genre: Horror, Sci Fi
This sequel to The Burning Z offers a stand-alone story that follows the zombie trail, beginning back in the Black Rock Desert - where the site of the Burning Man festival is now an internment camp for z’s -before leading us to a cruise ship off the Pacific coast, and culminating in a climactic battle during a football tailgate at the Oakland Coliseum. Along the way, The Z Tailgate takes us through international espionage, zombie kidnappings, a struggling romance, a cruise ship company cursed with bad publicity, fanatical costumed Raider football fans, and unseen aliens using zombies as a means of germ warfare.
My Review
I didn't know what to expect when I started reading The Z Tailgate. Don't get me wrong; I love a good zombie film and book, but it seems like the same story regurgitated over and over. The first thing I want to say is thank you to Clive Riddle for giving us zombies in a fun and different way! What a relief. I mean zombies on a cruise ship? At Burning Man? Ha, yes! One of my favorite parts of this book is that Riddle allows us to peek into the inner thoughts of zombies. We are so used to them being mindless creatures, but that changes in this novel. It's a cool concept, and he makes it work! I haven't read the previous book to this one, but I will be now.
